“Your word was my delight and the joy of my heart”
Jeremiah 15:16
The Sacred Scriptures are
God’s word that instruct, console and challenge the Christian. A purposeful and
attentive reading of God’s Word had always been practiced since early Jewish
times and was continued by the early Church. This constant reading and listening
to God’s Word is necessary because “The Church does not live on herself but on
the Gospel, and in the Gospel always and ever anew finds the directions for her
journey.” (Pope Benedict XVI, Address to Participants of the International
Dei Verbum Congress, Sept. 16 2005)
An excellent introduction to the nature and method of Lectio Divina is found in the Benedictine website and the Carmelites’ website that includes daily material for your Lectio Divina.
