Holy Thursday (April 21)

Reflection for Penitential Rite: We are called to serve others and promote unity. We ask forgiveness for the times we have failed.

Reflection for Penitential Rite: We are called to serve others and promote unity. We ask forgiveness for the times we have failed.

Liturgy of the Word:

1st Reading: In the first reading, the people of Israel prepare the Passover meal. God will soon lead them out of Egypt.

2nd Reading: In the second reading, we hear that Jesus really gave his body and blood in anticipation of his death. For all time his followers can celebrate this event as a saving reality.

Gospel: In the Gospel, Jesus washes the feet of the disciples symbolizing the total self-giving service and love of his crucifixion and providing us with a way to imitate that love and service.

Reflection on the Readings: Reflect on unity and service. These ideas perhaps don’t receive the meditative attention they deserve. Reflecting on them reveals challenges and grounds for hope, both of which are fitting concepts to bring into our special Eucharist this evening.

Reflection for Offertory: In a short while, we will receive the sacramental Body of Christ. We will give our recognition and assent with our “ Amen.” As we do so, let us accept all members of the Body of Christ on earth and commit ourselves to serving them.
