Bible Talk for the Volunteers of Suffering (Oct. 18th 2008)

Old friends meeting again – that was the general feeling when some 30 volunteers and physically challenged Catholics gathered at the DS Bible Center to pray, worship and listen to God’s Word.

Old friends meeting again – that was the general feeling when some 30 volunteers and physically challenged Catholics gathered at the DS Bible Center to pray, worship and listen to God’s Word.

They were first reminded of the Synod of Bishops’ discussion on the Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church, and how the bishops are encouraging Lectio Divina and a more pastoral approach to encountering the Bible.

Based on these sentiments, they studied the readings of the 28th and 29th Sundays. Amidst light-hearted moments, questions were posed for their reflection and life application. The encounter led everyone to read the biblical passages in its historical setting and gradually moving to the spiritual lessons that could be learnt.

Fittingly the afternoon ended with the Eucharistic celebration; the Scriptures and the Eucharist being the one reality which is Jesus Christ.
