The Duns Scotus Bible Centre has been organizing regular Retreats during Lent and Advent for English-speaking Catholics for the past few years. On this occasion 32 participants gathered in the afternoon of 9 April 2011 for the Lenten Retreat, with its theme ‘Journeying with the Cross’.

Guided from excerpts from 2Kings chapters 5 :1-24, and 7:3 the attendees learned about the sin of pride: the casting of God aside to claim achievements as one’s own; and the sin or ‘leprosy’ of fear when pride was covered by aloofness or by the erection of barriers. Three talks were given with sufficient time for deep reflection when lights were dimmed with soothing music in the background. In addition to the talks participants were fully involved in the prayers on the Way of the Cross and in the recitation of the Holy Rosary.
It was a spiritually stimulating afternoon of 3 hours where the Duns Scotus Bible Centre provided an oasis of peace to allow participants to put away their daily pressures temporarily and to reflect deeply on their commitments as Christians particularly during this Lenten season.
Many participants attended regular Bible classes organized by the Duns Scotus Bible Centre. They looked forward to the Retreats as many have requested that more sessions for reflective reading and learning of the Word of God could be arranged.
