The Theme on this occasion was the Ten Plagues which provoked and caused considerable havoc and destruction to the Egyptians and led to the Exodus of the Israelites to the Promised Land. The Rabbinic interpretations of each plague were examined. The plagues could be identified with problems faced by the Egyptians and by human beings in general but participants were advised that the 10 commandments given by God offered solutions to address these problems. Participants were also asked to reflect deeply on the actions of the ‘little people’ in the Gospel, e.g. Simon of Cyrene, Joseph of Arimathea, Joanna, etc. In one way or another, these personalities did play a role and we could learn and imitate their ways.
The Retreats held at the Duns Scotus Bible Centre were always well-received. It provided a sacred haven for many who wished to spend time away from their daily routines to reflect on their spiritual commitment in preparation for Holy Easter.
