Summary Advent Retreat : 30 November 2013 (Saturday)
Advent Retreat 2013 for English-speaking Catholics
On Saturday, November 30, the Duns Scotus Bible Centre held an Advent Retreat at the Centre. 85 participants attended, 60 at the Centre and 25 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. There were three talks and in between there were meditation and recitation of the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.
Guided by Luke Chapter 1:78-79:
"by the tender mercy of our God who from on high will bring the rising Sun to visit us, to give light to those who live in darkness and the shadow of death and to guide our feet into the way of peace", attendees were to reflect on the Christmas experience:
1)It is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ who frees us from darkness of sins, worries, enemies besieging our daily life. He comes to rescue us.
2)It is the celebration of light. It is a new beginning like the rising sun which dispels darkness and let light shine into our lives so that we can see anew.
3)It is the celebration of God's divine mercy. He comes to liberate us. The manifestation of God's mercy began at Christmas. He allows us to experience and rejoice in His mercy. He is guiding us into the way of peace.
Christmas is a living experience. It brings new light which helps us to see people, situation in a new perspective, thus making us more merciful, kind and generous. We should share this experience of liberation with others.
